Lightweight 14oz lumber tarps made from PVC-coated polyester for flatbed trailers carrying lumber, plywood, wallboard and other covered loads.

14oz vs 18oz: Weight and Fabric Selection

 

14oz fabric weighs approximately 475 gsm, compared with approximately 610 gsm for 18oz fabric.

 

For the same fabric area, this represents around 22% less fabric weight.

 

The lower weight helps when tarps need to be removed, folded and stowed between loads, particularly during repeated loading and unloading.

 

Finished tarp weight also includes end flaps, reinforcement, webbing, D-rings and grommets, so the percentage reduction in total weight depends on the construction.

Fabric weight alone does not determine tarp strength.

 

The polyester base fabric provides the main tensile and tear reinforcement, while the PVC coating contributes waterproofing and surface protection.

 

Compare yarn specification, weave density and test results alongside weight.

 

A heavier fabric with a different base construction is not automatically stronger.

 

When comparing coating weights, use equivalent base fabrics and consider the coating formulation and reinforcement details.

Is 14oz suitable for my load?

 

14oz is an option for daily covering of lumber, plywood, wallboard and packaged building materials where lower handling weight is a priority.

 

Check the surfaces the tarp will touch and how it will be fitted and removed.

 

For repeated rubbing or dragging, compare an 18oz construction or additional local reinforcement against the proposed 14oz specification.

 

Sharp edges need suitable edge protection or padding; increasing fabric weight alone does not prevent cuts.

 

Frequent folding and handling may favour a lighter tarp, while frequent abrasive contact calls for closer attention to coating and reinforcement.

 

What is the MOQ for custom lumber tarps?

 

If the required PVC fabric is in stock, there is no fixed MOQ for finished lumber tarps.

 

For fabric that needs to be produced, the standard fabric MOQ is generally 2,000–3,000 m².

 

The corresponding number of finished tarps depends on their dimensions and construction.

 

Can I order a sample before bulk production?

 

Yes.

 

Material samples can be arranged for evaluation.

What is the lead time for bulk orders?
