Basha fish is an important freshwater aquaculture species in Southeast Asian countries, and is a unique high-quality economic fish in the Mekong River basin. Vietnam transliterates it as "Kabasa", meaning "three fatty fish", because during the growth process, the fish accumulates three large pieces of oil in its abdominal cavity, accounting for approximately 58% of its body weight.

What are the characteristics of Basha fish?

Basha fish, belonging to the order Actinopterygii, suborder Actinopterygii, order Siluriformes, family Siluridae, and genus Siluriformes (genus Siluriformes). There are many catfish with similar appearance to the Basha fish, and it is difficult to distinguish them if not carefully identified. Basha fish has a round and scaleless body, a blue black back, and a white belly; The head is flat and wide, the abdomen is narrow, and the muscles on the side of the body are thick and edible. Round head, wide end, with fleshy and white whiskers around the snout. There are dark bands on the side of the body, and the tail fins are relatively dark. The maximum body length can reach 120 centimeters.

The suitable water temperature for the growth of Basha fish is 20 ℃~32 ℃, and the optimal water temperature is 24 ℃~30 ℃. When the water temperature drops to 16 ℃, stop eating. If the water temperature is below 10 ℃, it will freeze and even die. Parental cultivation of Bashar fish should do a good job of overwintering and insulation. From late October to early April of the following year, the water temperature should be kept above 20 ℃, and feed should be fed at 1% to 1.5% of the fish's body weight. Intensive cultivation should be carried out from early April to mid May, and feed should be fed at 2% to 2.5% of the fish's body weight; Feed can be replaced with tilapia or pond fish puffed feed with a protein content of 28%~32%. Maintain fresh water quality, with dissolved oxygen ranging from 4 milligrams to 5 milligrams per kilogram. Change the water every 7 to 10 days, with a water volume of about 15% each time.

The fry of the hawthorn fish mainly rely on natural fishing. Due to the migratory behavior of the hawthorn fish, it usually swims upstream of the Mekong River at the end of the flood season (from October to February of the following year) and enters the entire Mekong River at the beginning of the rainy season (June August). Salmon (hawthorn) spawns at the beginning of the rainy season, and the newly hatched seedlings flow down the river and disperse to southern Cambodia and vast areas of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Therefore, every June, fishermen in the Mekong River Basin use net bags to catch fish fry. From the 1860s to the 1970s, the annual catch of Bashar fish seedlings ranged from 500 to 800 million, and the catch of small fish ranged from 70 million to 120 million.
